The College of Business and Economics (CoBE) is one of the senior and prominent colleges at Madda Walabu University (MWU), established in 1999 when the university first launched its academic programming. Sharing MWU’s overarching vision, CoBE aspires to be among the top five societal problem-solving colleges in the country by the year 2030. To achieve this, the college operates under a multi-faceted mission focused on delivering high-quality undergraduate and graduate educational programs, including doctoral degrees, engaging in targeted research and community services, and contributing to economic development efforts at the local, regional, and national levels. Currently the college has five (5) departments: Economics, Accounting and Finance, Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Marketing Management. Across these departments, CoBE offers five core undergraduate programs in both regular and extension streams, with extension centers in Robe, Ginnir, and Dello. Alongside, the college also offers summer undergraduate program in Economics and Business Education. At the postgraduate level, the college provides regular and extension Master’s programs in Business Administration, Development Economics, Marketing and Management, Accounting & Finance, and Tourism and Hospitality Management, as well as a PhD program in Accounting and Finance. The college run these diverse academic programs with total academic staff of 72, with 60 currently on active duty. Reflecting a good qualified faculty, 76% of the active staff hold Master's degrees, and 18.3% possess PhDs.
