Our Story

Madda Walabu University (MWU) stands among Ethiopia’s prominent higher education institutions. Named after a historic site southwest of Robe, the region is richly tied to Oromo heritage and the Gada governance system. Today, the name “Madda Walabu” resonates widely from cultural institutions to the university itself, preserving a legacy of knowledge, culture, and service.

Established in 1999 E.C., MWU has expanded rapidly, broadening academic programs, welcoming more students, and opening campuses while remaining grounded in community impact. Situated in a fertile, scenic region and surrounded by tourist attractions, MWU offers an environment that inspires learning, research, and innovation.
